Illegal Logging

G8 & illegal logging

In May 1998 G8 foreign ministers launched the ‘G8 Forestry Action Programme’, featuring illegal logging as one of its five priority areas. This helped catalyse many subsequent activities in the area. In 2005 the UK has made illegal logging a priority area for its presidency of the G8, and the topic was discussed at the meeting of G8 environment and development ministers in Derby in March 2005. The G8 aim at building on their Action Plan and supporting international processes including those on Forest Law Enforcement and Governance (FLEG) in East Asia, Africa and Europe and North Asia. more information (illegal-logging.info)
